STRIKE RACK CUTTING AND REPAIR
Even a strike rack that is to be repaired will benefit from having its new teeth cut with professional cutters rather than being hand cut with a piercing saw and then filed.
If a rack is too far gone or is of a steel which is not suitable for a repair then a new replacement can be cut.
As can be seen in the photograph below, for a new rack a suitable piece of bright steel is cut, marked out to the approximate shape, a hole drilled for the pivot point and the radius is shaped for the correct arc of teeth. The clockmaker can then finish shaping the rack to suit the movement allowing for curving around posts etc. Because these blanks are made to order according to the supplied drawing or old rack they will have the correct geometry and function as per the original, unlike off the shelf blanks.
ALL RACK BLANKS ARE NOW MADE USING C.N.C. INDEXING
Unless a job is more demanding than it should be one price fits all as larger ones using more material are easier, small ones are more fiddly and therefore may need to be done twice. £35 plus postage. Repairs by quote only.
The photograph below shows rack teeth being cut for a carriage clock. The blank is turned on its pivot point to ensure the correct arc by the C.N.C. rotary table.
